Publisher
A Kharkiv publishing house that has spent more than fifteen years collecting the city frame by frame — archive photographs, plans, postcards and documents — and giving them back to people as books. This film is made from the same material.
First, the search: museums, libraries, state archives, private collections. Then verification: exactly where the photographer stood, what remains of the building, how the place looks today. Only then is the present-day frame shot from the very same spot. That is why in every book past and present meet on a single spread rather than sitting in separate chapters.
Gabriel Mykhailov
Concept, compiler
Devised the device the books and this film rest on: an archive frame and a present-day photograph meeting in a single image.
Volodymyr Bysov
Compiler, photographer
Shot the present-day views up to 2012 — the "then and now" pairs are built from his frames.
Olena Buriak
Author of the texts
Historical commentary for the album "Kharkiv. The Capital of Constructivism".
